Advent and Christmas at Holy Trinity Brussels

Join us this season for one of our many services as celebrate the light and hope that we’ve received in Jesus Christ. Regardless of your background or tradition, we hope you’ll find services that help you prepare for Christmas. Events which are particularly well-suited to families with young children are marked with an asterisk (*).

Christmas and Advent Programme

We live in a world of stark contrasts, many of which have become increasingly evident this year. Great joy and deep sadness. Extreme wealth and devastating poverty. Buoyant optimism and oppressive darkness.

In light of these tensions, what can we expect of Christmas?

Christmas is, at its core, a story of hope in the midst of despair. Light in the midst of darkness. We rejoice that our hopeful light shone in the darkness, and that darkness was not able to overcome it. Where light is, darkness will always fade away.

Join us this season as we explore the light of Christ this Advent and prepare to celebrate the birth of our saviour.

We hope that this Christmastime, regardless of the tensions in your own life, you and your loved ones may know the hope of Christ, and that we all may share in the joy of that divine light that will always overcome the darkness.

Wishing you a blessed Christmas,

Paul and the whole church family at Holy Trinity Brussels

Services and Events in Advent

  • Sunday 16 December, 2018

15:00 | Family Festival of Lessons and Carols*

For the first time this year, you’re invited to join us for a matinee version of our beloved Carol Service. This service will be slightly shorter and more relaxed than the evening version, so it is particularly well-suited to families with younger children.

19:30 | A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

One of the most anticipated events in our preparation for Christmas, our Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols will be taking place again this year at Holy Trinity. The sounds of carols both familiar and new will fill the church, led by our robed choir, talented soloists and a full orchestra. Refreshments will be served in the hall downstairs after the service.

As this event is always full to beyond the capacity of the church, if you’d like to secure a seat in the church itself we recommend arriving early.

  • Sunday 23 December, 2018

    18:00 | Light in Darkness

Despite appearances, the holiday season is not easy for many of us. It may remind us of someone we have lost, reopen wounds of the past, or intensify feelings of loneliness and isolation. At this service we will bring our our sadnesses to God as the one who deeply and compassionately understands our pain. Regardless of the difficulties that threaten to overshadow your joy this season, you are welcome to come and join us in this safe, quiet service.
